GARFIELD - The WP Tigers softball team consistently out-hit Gar-Pal in a March 27 double-header, but dropped both games by one.
WP got off to a slow start in the first two innings of game one and made errors that allowed Gar-Pal to score early. "We were able to put together a nice rally in the third inning that started with a base hit by Analise Salazar followed with doubles by Loegan Harshman and Heidi Miller. Samantha Fedderson and Paige Wood followed behind them with singles and they were driven in on a triple play by Jade Alleman. Unfortunately, Gar-Pal was able to add a couple runs in the bottom of the third inning," said Coach Angie Potts. Final score was 7-6, Gar-Pal.
WP made ten hits to Gar- Pals seven, but had four errors. Gar-Pal had zero errors. Jaidyn Brown pitched with Wood catching. Salazar had three hits and Fedderson had two. Harshman, Miller, Wood, Alleman and Hannah Grant had one each.
WP got off to a good start in game two, with strong batting and consistent runs. They held the lead throughout the game until Gar-Pal put together some base hits to take the win by one in the bottom of the 7th. Final score was 8-7, Gar-Pal.
"Analise had a great day with five hits and four scores. Jade Alleman had a triple in the first game and a double in the second. Loegan Harshman had a double in the first game and a triple in the second game. Paige Wood had two triples in the second game. The girls are hitting the ball really well and the defense is communicating better and playing more solid defense. We just have a few more areas to work on and we'll be good to go," said Potts.
WP had one error to Gar- Pal's zero. Brown pitched with Wood catching. Grant and Wood had three hits each with Salazar, Miller and Brown making two. Harshman, Caitlin Mohney, Alleman made one each.
