WAITSBURG - "You can get us some money for the pool," said City Clerk Randy Hinchliffe at a City Council meeting last fall, responding to community activist Joy Smith who had asked what she could do to help. Smith took the request to Blue Mountain Resource Conservation and Development Council Executive Director Lisa Naylor, who did just that.
Naylor, who is also responsible for procuring the PP&L grant that funded the recent painting of the fairgrounds, attained a $4500 Pacificorp Foundation for Learning Grant to be used toward pool repairs. Pacific Power Regional Community Manager Bill Clemens presented the check to the City on April 17.
The City recently spent $528 to rebuild the pool pump and the heaters are in need of work as well. A slow leak in the shallow end of the pool requires that the liner be replaced. The City has a spare liner and Hinchliffe said he thought the grant money would be sufficient to cover the labor for the necessary repairs.
