Over two dozen Waitsburg residents who lived through World War II, or served in the military during the worldwide conflict, gathered in the former American Legion Banquet Rooms last Thursday to relate to students in Ms. Bailey's American History class their experiences during that tumultuous period. Students asked questions and scribbled notes as foks, including Dorne Hall of Walla Walla, told of their lives and the effect of the war.

Reuben Stokes and Tom Mathews, students at Waitsburg High School, served as legislative pages in Washington state House of Representatives April 17 through 23. Stokes and Mathews were sponsored by Rep. Bill Grand, D-Walla Walla. Stokes is the son of Robert and Ruby Stokes of Waitsburg, Mathews is the son of Tom and Cherri Mathews of Waitsburg.
In a recent art contest among schools in the Blue Mountain Small Schools Consortium, Waitsburg students placed well in several categories. Pat Donnelly took a first place in painting in the high school division, grades 9-12. He also took first place in the mixed media competition, and a 2nd place in drawing.

Bill Peterson dropped in Wednesday morning to bring to our attention the fact that the Main Street flower boxes need watering. As we well know, rainfall has been sparse, and the evergreens are in need of some moisture. So each businessman is urged to water the tree in front of his establishment.
Jerry Mock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Mock, was elected president of the Wait-Hi student body Aporil 17; with Norman Hansen as vice-president; Kathie Weeks, secretary; and Jerry Wood, treasurer.
Justice of the Peace, Dolph Egelston has announced that a small claims department has been established in the City of Waitsburg for all debts under $50.00.

Queen Mary Elizabeth Walker will preside over the festivities of our annual May Day Fete at Preston Park Friday afternoon of this week.
Miss Roberta Stonecipher was crowned Queen of the Junior Prom at Washington State College over the weekend.
We are indebted to Mr. and Mrs. Will Stimmel of Helix, Ore. for a large bouquet of about the most beautiful tulips we have ever seen Mr. and Mrs. Stimmel make a specialty of raising tulips and their yard is quite a show place when the flowers are in bloom.
The sale last week of what has come to be known as the Callahan residence on Coppei Avenue to the Nazarene Church brought to mind the fact that this dwelling was constructed by our W. E. Singer, well-known carpenter and millwright for the home of himself and family.

The May Pole dance at the Social Center May 1 was very prettily handled by Ethel Free, Naomi Danielson, Roberta Houtchens, Velma Keiser, Ruth Eaton, Wilda Arton, Berna Gibson, Calla Summers, Virginia McElwain, Maude Baim, Madelaine Walker, Julia Ramseur, Ruby Wilde, Elsye Mock and Adela Wood.
Miss Helen Diehl was crowned May Queen. The Queen's attendants were Ethel McAninch and Elvira Southard, Pages were Ruth and Edna Eickelberger, Lucile Roberts and Dorothy Call.
A beautiful butterfly dance was performed by Adelaide Rutledge, Lola Stonecipher, Fleeta Kinder, Mae Singer, Grace Stonecipher, Willieta Rice, Ilene Cole, Dora Middleton, Marvel Runkle, Mary Sevearengen, Katie Ross and Anna Danielson.
One Hundred Twenty-Five Years Ago
May 10, 1889
Dr. S. M. White of Indianapolis, Ind. arrived in the city on Wednesday and will remain for a few days. He is an old friend of Dr. C. C. Johnson, and will locate in this country.
Owing to the delay in the arrival of the iron front for their building, the Bank of Waitsburg will not be ready for business as soon as expected. They will be ready about the first of June.
Frank Keiser says he will be very thankful if the fellow who borrowed his wagon seat will return the same. He needs it.
Cavanagh & Hardman's saloon has this week received a new coat of paint, a new sign, and numerous internal improvements.
The ice cream festival given by Eastern Star Lodge No. 9 on Tuesday evening was a very pleasant affair and a financial success.
