Cardinal Tracksters have Busy Week

BENTON CITY - The WP Cardinal track team traveled to Kiona Benton High School here last week to compete against four division 1A teams. Several athletes improved their best times here.

Freshman Emily Adams won the 800 meter and 1,600 meter races. She placed third in the long jump and second in the triple jump. In all four events, Adams had personal best times or distances.

"We are working with her on what she can do at districts and hopefully we make the right choices," said WP Coach Jeff Bartlow. "She also can run the 400 and 3,200."

Senior E.J. Meserve won the 3,200 meter race and took second in the 1,600 meters. His time in that race was 10 seconds faster than his previous personal best time.

The WP boys' 4X400 relay team won its race, with a new team best time. They are "tops in our league right now," said Bartlow.

Kevin Aquino also had a big day, running legs in both relays (4X100 and 4X400) and placing fourth in the 100 meters and second in the 400 meter race, with a personal best time.

He has really picked it up for us," said Bartlow. "He has had a great work ethic and is a good leader."

Owen Lanning took second in the 110 meter hurdles and won the 300 meter hurdles by three seconds. He also won the triple jump event.
