Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - WSU Extension Forester Steve McConnell is offering a workshop for private southeast Washington forest landowners on Saturday, May 31 in Dayton. Forestry professionals from WSU, Washington DNR and Northwest Management, Inc. will present forest management advice. The workshop will begin at 9 a.m. at the Columbia County Fire District 3 conference room at 206 West Main in Dayton and is $20 per family. Attendees must pre-register by May 27 by contacting Mc- Connell at (509) 477-2175 or smcconnell@spokanecounty.org.
The workshop will address forest thinning and pruning forest stands. Classroom discussion will take place from 9 a.m. until noon, followed by lunch and a field trip to nearby forest property. Participants are encouraged to bring shears and/or pruning saws. Following the demonstration, participants will visit another forest property to assess overall forest health and long-term biological and financial reasons for thinning and pruning.
The event is locally coordinated by the Blue Mountain Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council, a regional nonprofit serving Asotin, Columbia, Garfield and Walla Walla counties since 2001.
