Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WAITSBURG - Waitsburg High School graduates will hold their annual Reunion and Banquet Saturday, May 24, at the elementary school. A meet and greet will take place from 5-6 p.m. Dinner, catered by Patti Hendrickson, will begin at 6 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Waitsburg High School Alumni Association and is open to all graduates of the high school, their spouses and guests. The class of 2014 will be welcomed into the Association and their family members are encouraged to join in the celebration.
The purpose of the Alumni Association is to encourage a spirit of fellowship among the graduates of Wait- Hi, to renew old acquaintances, to cultivate the spirit of loyalty to our schools and to promote the general welfare of education in our community.
The first class to graduate from Wait-High received their diplomas from a two-year course in
1889. There were only 55 graduates from the high school during the next 14 years. The Class of 1903 started the Alumni Association and it has been meeting annually ever since.
The Alumni Board meets monthly, and one of a number of this year's accomplishments has been to develop an Alumni Scholarship Fund through the Blue Mountain Community Foundation. Two $1,000 Scholarships will be awarded this year through that fund. This Scholarship Fund does not replace the Lloyd Memorial Fund, which is available to any high school graduate who is in their final term of college (4-year, Community College, Technical College, or trade school). This loan fund has been very beneficial to a number of alums over the years.
For reservations to the Reunion and Banquet, please call Patty Mantz at 337-6080. Dinner cost is $15; however, there is no charge for the Class of 2014. For general information about the WHS Alumni Association, contact Mary Phillips, at 337-6427.
