Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - The 2014 Dayton Days parade will roll down Main Street Saturday morning, starting at 10 a.m. Though most of the traditional Dayton Days events are no longer being held, the parade is expected to be as large as ever.
The parade is again being organized by the Dayton Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Events Coordinator Linze Purcell said that several fair courts from southeast Washington and northeast Oregon are signed up to be part of the parade.
The parade will also feature a special lineup of classic cars to commemorate the 20th anniversary of All Wheels Weekend, which is coming up in June. "We've asked all of the local owners of classic cars to do this, and most of them agreed," said AWW chairperson Bette Lou Crothers.
The parade will also feature the usual collection of entries, such as candidates running for office and businesses promoting their products.
After the parade, a special Fair Hostesses Royalty Luncheon will be held for all of the visiting fair courts. It is being organized by Leslie Sweetwood and Mikki Smith, and will be held at the Youth Building at the Columbia County Fairgrounds at Noon.
The luncheon has been generously sponsored by the Dayton Chamber, the Dayton Days Committee, Mike and Corey Hewett and Dayton Mayor Craig George.
