Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - The Lady Bulldogs softball team ended season play in a May 13 loser-out home game against Garfield-Palouse/Tekoa- Oakesdale, dropping the game 8-9. Dayton took the lead in the first three innings, but GPTO tied the score at 3-all in inning four. GPTO made four runs in innings five and six, to Dayton's two. Neither team scored in the final inning, earning GPTO the win.
"We had a few bad throws that allowed some runs to score that shouldn't have, but we really just didn't get that opportune hit," said Assistant Coach Desirae Jones. "We played the small game well and got runners on, but then we needed the hits to get the girls across the plate and we didn't make it happen."
Dayton fielded a young team this year, bringing up several players from junior high. The Lady 'Dawgs will only lose two graduating seniors next season - Courtney
Mings and Lexus Ward. "It's always sad when the season ends and we are losing two great seniors. But we are a young team. Over half the team was 8th and 9th graders, and some really strong leaders in the upper ranks. They've got some experience now, and that will help drive this team next year," said Jones.
