Lanning Leads Cardinals at Sub-Districts

WALLA WALLA - WP's Owen Lanning won two events and took two second places last week at the Southeast 2B Sub-district meet here last week.

Lanning's 42-foot triple jump attempt was nearly three feet longer than the second place finisher. Lanning also won the 300 meter hurdles and was second in the 110 meter hurdles. In addition, he anchored the second place WP 4X400 meter relay team.

Lanning advanced in all four events to the District 9 championship meet this weekend at the University of Idaho.

WP's Kevin Aquino also had a big day at Sub-districts, winning the 400 meter race and placing fifth in the 100 meter dash. He also ran on both the third-place 4X100 relay team and the second-place 4X400 team.

Kobie Brown took second in the high jump, with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches. He also placed third in the 110 hurdles. Nate Bartlow finished a strong second in the shot put, with a toss of 40 feet, 7 ¼ inches.

WP Coach Jeff Bartlow pointed out two freshmen who had outstanding performances at last week's meet. Andre Potts set personal bests in high jump, long jump and triple jump. "Those two freshman stood out for me and I was proud of them," Bartlow said.

WP's girls also had a successful Sub-district meet. "All seven of our girls got in (to the District meet) and that was a highlight," Bartlow said.

Senior Beka Adams placed second in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Her sister Emily, a freshman, had four third-place finishes and advanced to Districts in all four: 800 meters, 1600 meters, 3200 meters and triple jump.

Meara Baker, also a senior, was third in shot put and fourth in discus. Junior Kassidy Kuykendall placed third in the 400 meters and advances to District in that event.

The District meet runs Thursday and Friday at the University of Idaho campus in Moscow. The top three places in each event qualify for the state meet the following weekend at Eastern Washington University in
