Fairgrounds Tenants, County Reach Agreement

DAYTON - The Columbia County Commissioners met last week with horse owners who rent stalls at the Columbia County Fairgrounds. The county previously informed horse owners that stall rentals and use of the horse facilities at the fairgrounds would be closed to them over the summer months because of the many events that take place there.

Leanne Litteral and Candy Jones described the importance of the fairgrounds facilities for training youth and disabled people and that hardship would be caused by not having those facilities available. After discussing the issue with Litteral and Jones, and with County Engineer Drew Woods, the commissioners agreed that the horse owners could have access to the fairgrounds for two two-week periods when events aren't being held.

The tentative schedule is as follows. (Dates may change slightly depending on event needs): - Fairgrounds will be closed from June 1 through June 15, for maintenance work and use by All Wheels Weekend for Demo Derby. - Fairgrounds will be open to horse owners from June 16 through June 27. - Fairgrounds will be closed from June 28 through July

31. During those dates it will be used for the Buck Brannaman Clinics and the Mule Mania event, as well as further maintenance. - Fairgrounds will be open from August 1 through 15. - Fairgrounds will be closed from August 16 through September 7, for use by Columbia County Fair.
