MOSCOW, Ida. - Owen Lanning continued his dominance of the 300 meter hurdles for WP as he won the event at the 2B District 9 Championships here last weekend. He also took second in the 110 hurdles and the triple jump and ran the anchor leg second place 4X100 relay team.
Lanning will represent WP in all four events later this week at the state 2B Track and Field championships in Cheney.
Teammate Kobie Brown took first in the 110 hurdles, and also placed second in the high jump. Another teammate, Kevin Aquino, won the 400 meter race in Moscow. Brown and Aquino both ran on the winning 4X100 relay team and the second place 4X400 team, both of which set team records. Brown and Aquino will compete at state in their respective events.
WP's Nate Bartlow had an excellent meet in the shot put, placing second with a throw of 42 feet, 9 ¼ inches, which was a new personal record. His teammate, sophomore Zion Branson took third at 38 feet, 5 ¼ inches. Bartlow and Branson both move on to state.
On the Girls side, sisters Beka and Emily Adams both qualified for state. Beka threw a personal best in the Discus at 93 feet, 7 inches. Emily placed third in the 800 meters and 3,200 meters, and moves on in both. She just missed qualifying in the 1,600 meter race, placing fifth.
"We had a great couple of days in Moscow," Coach Jeff Bartlow said. Of his athletes, he said, "I was proud of them all."
