CHENEY - Dayton's top track athlete, Kaitlyn Andrews, took second place in the long jump at the Washington State Championship 2B track meet here on Saturday. Andrews also placed fourth in the javelin and triple jump, as well as seventh in the 100 meter dash.
Andrews, a junior, was Dayton's only female qualifier at state, but she garnered 20 points, putting Dayton 11th in team standings out of 36 2B girls' teams at the meet.
Andrews' medal long jump was listed at 16 feet 6 ½ inches. She threw the Javelin 119 feet, 10 inches and her triple jump mark was 33 feet, 11 ¾ inches.
Dayton's sole male contender at state was Oscar Teixeira, who competed in the 100 meter dash and the 110 meter hurdles. Teixeira, a junior exchange student from Finland, was unable to secure a medal, finishing 16th in the 100 meters and 11th in the hurdles.
