CHENEY - WP's Kobie Brown cleared six feet even in the high jump competition at the state 2B Championship Meet here Saturday, which was good enough to tie for fourth place. He also took fifth in the finals of the 110 meter hurdles.
Brown's teammate Owen Lanning was seventh in the 110 hurdles. Lanning, like Brown, a junior, also ran in the 300 hurdles, but placed 12th after a stumble in his qualifying heat. In that same event, WP's Trenton Kitselman placed 16th.
In the triple jump, Lanning took sixth place, with a jump of 41 feet, 6 ¾ inches.
On the girls' side, freshman Emily Adams ran in both the 800 meter and 3,200 meter races. While finishing 15th in the 800, Adams medaled in the 3,200, finishing in seventh place.
Adams' sister, Beka, competed in the Discus, finishing 13th.
WP's boys' relay teams had a disappointing showing in Friday's preliminaries. The 4X400 meter team of Al Sessay, Kevin Aquino, Travis Crocket and Brown, finished 10th, failing to qualify for the finals. The 4X400 team of Aquino, Sessay, Brown and Lanning finished 15th on Friday, again missing the cut.
WP also had two competitors in the 200 meter boys' race, with Sessay finishing 14th and Crocket finishing 16th. Aquino represented the Cardinal team in the 400 meter race, finishing 13th.
In the shot put, senior Nate Bartlow had a throw of 42 feet, 8 ¾ inches, which was good enough for 13th place. His teammate Zion Branson, a Sophomore, was 16th in the shot, with a throw of 38 feet, 4 ¼ inches.
