June 11, 2014 Meeting
Council members Marty Dunn, Kevin House, Karl Newell and Deb Callahan and Mayor Walt Gobel were present with councilman K.C. Kuykendall absent.
New Business:
-Awarded Main Street ADA Retrofit project to Moreno & Nelson Construction for the lowest responsible bid of $152,360 with add alternate school district parking lot driveway bid of $4822.
- Approved six- year transportation plan. Focus is on sidewalks and general street maintenance and possible bridge replacements. Heard visibility concerns regarding trees blocking view on the Taggert Road/ Highway 12 intersection.
-Voted not to lower multi-dwelling utility rates.
-Passed budget amendment to close Flour Mill Fund now that kiosk is completed.
-Approved agreement with Anderson, Perry & Associates as administrators of Main Street ADA Retrofit project.
-Appointed Marty Dunn as Mayor Pro Tem
-Set Council training date for July 16; will combine with Prescott and Dayton, if possible.
-Accepted Sherwood Trust Grant of $125,000 of the requested $155,000 to complete the Main Street streetscape. The City must pick up remaining funds from an outside source and art consultant Jeana Garske will administer the project. The initial conceptual designs included two pieces. An interactive piece of a table with two people - possibly local historical figures - playing checkers, with two empty seats, to be placed in front of the Weller Library. A second piece will include life size likenesses of Sylvester Wait, William Bruce and William Preston standing on the north end of Main Street and looking at a map. The final versions will be dependent on the artists' interpretation.
Unfinished Business:
-Approved a City Hall access agreement with Mike Hubbard as amended by City Attorney Kris Hedine and Hubbard's attorney, Scott Marinella.
Council Reports:
-The fire chief has requested that the burn ban be extended to the City when the county puts it into effect.
-Concern was expressed regarding two RV's parked on the corner of Coppei and Preston Avenues.
Other:
City Attorney Kris Hedine is running unopposed for District Court Judge and is in the process of determining changes in his practice and will notify the City once they are decided. He should be able to continue in his current capacity through November.
