Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
DAYTON - With unseasonably cool weather in store, the Dayton and Waitsburg Teams teed off last weekend in the fourth annual Touchet Valley Ryder Cup Tournament. Dayton came away with its fourth straight title, after a very close tournament.
Waitsburg took an early commanding lead after Friday's first round, but Dayton slowly pulled its way back, evening the score at the end of Saturday's second round, before winning Sunday's round.
"What a bunch of great players!" said Dayton captain Kim Lyonnais. "It was close as it could get. I'm looking forward to next year."
"Next yearhellip;," said Waitsburg captain Mike White, implying Waitsburg plans to finally win its first tournament. "The real winners were the Junior Golfers," he said.
All of the proceeds from the tournament will go toward Touchet Valley Junior Golf, which will hold a oneweek youth golf camp later this month.
Lyonnais especially wanted to thank the Ryder Cup sponsors: Waitsburg Lions Club, Blue Mountain Realtors, Nealey and Marinella Law Office, Portland General Electric and Blue Mountain Environmental and Consulting.
