Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
Dear Editor,
We believe local government (city & county) is where democracy works best. At the local level, you know the people better who are in office or who are running for office. It's reasonably clear to see who understands and cares most about us, about the community, and about local governmental function. Local issues and budgets can be and are discussed at a more intimate level; we the people can make our needs and ideas heard. At higher levels of government, we lose touch with our leaders, and they with us. We also believe party affiliation is unimportant in local politics. We need people that care, who have good ideas, who will listen and respond to public opinion, and who have the energy and focus to get things done. Over the years, we've voted for people of all sorts of party affiliation, looking for the best woman or man for the job. We also believe in voting for the best person over many issues, not any particular idea of concern at the moment of voting. Dain Nysoe has our vote for County Commissioner for District 3 in Columbia County. Nysoe is passionate, experienced, energetic, and has good ideas. He is cost-conscious and cares about the community.
