Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
Dear Editor,
Sheriff Turner has undergone a great deal of scrutiny during his tenure. Much has been printed and his opponent and his supporters have been given the opportunity to put their own spin on the stories. I would argue that there is a pattern of behavior by Sheriff Turner's opponent which should concern voters. He is touted as fiscally conservative.
says something different to me. His many years of experience in law enforcement is cited. Not reading and understanding the importance of office communication regarding the Ortega Law as was demonstrated in the Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum says something different to me about job performance. A candidate for office should at least know the number of employees in each department, yet Sheriff Turner's opponent could not give the number of employees in the jail at a recent candidate forum. A candidate for office - especially for sheriff - should at least diligently follow the rules and regulations regarding campaigns yet Mr. Cooper did not follow the rules and was told by the Washington State Public Disclosure Commission to correct aspects of his campaign that violated regulations. For me, this all adds up to someone for whom I cannot in good conscience vote. Sheriff Turner has proven his abilities and should be retained in November. Please join the majority of sheriff office employees and me and cast your vote to re-elect Sheriff John Turner. Elizabeth Stewart Walla Walla
