Lady ‘Dawgs Open Season with Tough 5-Set Loss

DAYTON - Dayton's Lady 'Dawgs kicked off their volleyball season with a Jamboree in Clarkston on Sept. 8, and a hard-fought, fiveset loss to Weston-McEwen on September 9. Coach Shannon Turner says the team is playing well early in the season.

The Bulldogs fell to the TigerScots with set scores of: 23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 13-25 and 10-15. Junior Madison Mings served a perfect game with 17/17 over the net. Sophomores Jenna Phillips, Josilyn Fullerton and Senior Lexie Ramirez were right behind with 19/20, 6/7 and 20/22, respectively. Junior Bryeana Myrick dished out nine kills and Fullerton followed suit with eight. Mings made 22 digs and Phillips and Ramirez made 17 each.

"At times we looked great last night," said Turner, following the game. "We know our strengths and weaknesses and what we need to work out before we start league. We've played some good strong teams the past two nights and competed almost every game. With our experience and athletic ability, our offense will be stronger this year than it has been in several years. We need to be consistent and learn to keep our composure and finish playing when we are up a set and always. This is a fun group of girls and I'm looking forward to the season," she added.
