Lady Cards Have Busy Week

WAITSBURG - WP kicked off league play in Asotin with a four-set win against the Pirates on Sept. 23. Set scores were 25-13, 24-26, 25-11, 25-13. Stat leaders were Kassidy Kuykendall with 15 assists, Paige Wood with 10 kills, 2 blocks and 9 digs, Samantha Fedderson with 5 kills, 5 blocks, 10 digs and 4 aces and Jaidyn Brown with 3 kills and 2 aces. "I'm really happy with how the girls played. We let up in the second set but came back to play strong and finish the way we needed to," said Coach Angie Potts.

The Cardinals didn't fare as well in the home non-conference against Liberty Spangle (new to the rotation) on Sept. 25. The Lancers won in three sets: 16-25, 10-25, 21-25. Samantha Fedderson scored seven kills and two blocks, Kassidy Kuykendall has eight assists, Taylor Hays scored three aces and four digs and Jaidyn Brown and Paige Wood had two kills each.

The Lady Cards fell in three yet again in a non-league match on the Heppner, Ore. court on Sept. 26. The Mustangs fell the Cards in 12-25, 7-25, and 15- 25. Kassidy Kuykendall dished up six assists, Paige Wood had three kills, Samantha Fedderson dished out three kills and three blocks and Jaidyn Brown made two blocks.

"The last two matches (Liberty Spangle and Heppner) we haven't played to our potential. We've been hesitant on defense and slow to get in position. We'll make some adjustments in practice to change the intensity and get ready to compete in the league matches coming up," said coach Angie Potts following the Heppner match.

As The Times went to press on Sept. 30 the Cardinals were playing a league match against Walla Walla Valley Academy on WWVA's court. The team will play their next league match at home on Oct. 2 against Tri-Cities Prep.
