Vote Yes for the Hospital Bond

Dear Editor,

When I first read the information in a couple of the letters in the local papers informing us that the remodel would put the nurses' station closer to the ER thus making it easier to take care of the duties of the ER as well as patients in the hospital and move the kitchen so employees did not have to move the food so far to the patients in Booker Rest Home, my first thoughts were why would we spend 5 million dollars for this??? Well now I feel those letters were, although well intentioned, they were misleading for me and many others as I was a definite NO.

After asking questions and reading further info on this it is not just for the benefit of the employees making too many steps, but because we need to update the facility not only because of the needs but also to generate assets that can be considered for depreciation.. We need to update. OK now that I understand this and also understand that by having a building that is being depreciated again then we will be eligible for dollars from Medicaid to care for the patients in Booker Rest Home who are unable to pay the full bill on their own. Now my vote is YES. I do not know if I or my husband will either one will ever need the local rest home but if needed I certainly hope that it is available as it would be a hardship to have our loved ones housed some 30 miles away.

If one of my family or friends is having a heart attack or other emergency I do hope we will always have this hospital to take them to stabilize them and then on to the specialist they may need.

We need the Booker Rest Home, we need the clinic, we need the ER facility, we need the rooms for hospital care, we need the Imaging department and we need the Physical Therapy Department. We also need a facility the providers want to work in. Let's show them we are community that supports their needs.

I ask all of you to please join me in voting YES for the hospital Bond. Ileen Patrick Dayton
