POMEROY - WP's Emily Adams placed first among 26 female runners at the second D9 League Meet in Pomeroy on Oct. 8 with a time of 21:53.8. Adams was followed by Shania Baily of St. John-Endicott with a time of 22:14.6. WP's Perla Xolio was back on the course following a week of illness and placed 12th with a time of 26:22.7.
"The Pomeroy course is no tone to try to run for time since nearly a third of it is uphill," said Coach Dan Nechedom. "It's a great course, though, for athletes who welcome a good challenge. Emily, who punishes people for challenging her on a hill, took the lead at the start and never saw the back of another jersey."
In the Men's race, WP season frontrunner Landon Callas as well as Robert Walsh sat out with injuries. Skylar Wood was first in for WP, placing 26th out of 54 runners with a time of 21:23.7. Joe Leamy and Tom House placed 36th and 37th, respectively, but their times were unrecorded. "I had several opportunities [during the race] to see Tom, Joe and Skylar and encourage them to move up on a competitor. The next time I saw them, they were 10 yards ahead of them! They all worked hard to push themselves further forward in the pack," said Nechedom.
