Vote “YES” for Hospital Levy

Dear Editor,

I am writing to encourage you to vote "YES" for the hospital levy. I have had a strong relationship with the hospital for the past 50 plus years. I have been a volunteer for the past 12 years, was an employee in the late '60s, and Fred was a 25- year board member.

At the time the hospital was built there was a need for surgery, nursery and in-patient care. Over the years, healthcare has changed, especially for rural hospitals. We now have few in-patients, no surgery or nursery, but the physical therapy, lab, emergency and imaging departments have grown. They are the mainstay now. Booker Rest Home is full most all the time. It is for that reason that dietary should be nearer the facility.

There have been drastic changes in healthcare and we have an excellent medical staff to care for emergencies and to stabilize patients before sending them on to more specialized care.

At my age, I want medical help near home and to know that I can be taken care of here. Walla Walla can be a long way to go if you need "hurry up" medical care.

For that reason let's support the board in giving us a better facility in keeping with the times and vote "YES" for the hospital levy.
