DAYTON - The Lady 'Dawgs tasted their first league losses of the season last week. First, in an away game against WWVA on Oct. 14 and then at a home court match against Tri-Cities Prep on Oct. 16. The losses leave the Bulldogs sitting 5-2 in league play and 10-4, overall.
"We didn't ever shake our mental block, so really never showed up to play," said coach Shannon Turner in reference to the three set loss (25-12, 25-16, 25-9) against WWVA. "We'll get 'em next time." Sarah Phillips and Josilyn Fullerton both scored perfect serves with 11/11 and 6/6, respectively. Stat leaders included Madison Mings with 4 kills and 5 digs, Lexi Ramirez with 3 kills, 3 assists, and 9 digs, Jenna Phillips with 2 kills, 7 digs, 1 block and Fullerton with 2 kills, 5 digs and 2 blocks.
The Bulldogs went four sets and played hard in a home court game against TCP on Oct. 16. Unforced errors allowed TCP to walk away with the win 20-25, 19-25, 25-17, 22-25. "We played a good match, they just had a few more unforced errors that our opponent that night," said Turner.
The Bulldogs remained strong at the serving line. Lexi Ramirez served a perfect 19/19, followed by Mia Becker with 13/13 and Sarah Phillips with 12/12. Jenna Phillips (17/18), Mings (15/16) and Fullerton (7/8) were short one each. Ramirez played strong across the court with 4 aces, 4 kills, 13 assists and 13 digs. Mings did likewise with 6 kills, 5 blocks and 18 digs. Jenna Phillips dished out 11 kills and 19 digs and Mia Becker played strong offense with 26 digs and 1 kill.
"It was a great, competitive match," said Turner. "Fun sets and a lot of great rallies. TC Prep is a good, solid team."
