Lady Cards Lose Four

WAITSBURG - The Lady Cards fell 4-4 last week in games against Milton-Freewater, Walla Walla Valley Academy, Weston-McEwen and Asotin.

The Milton-Freewater Pioneers felled the Cards 43-26 in a Dec. 16 league battle against the Pioneer court. Taylor Jones was top scorer of the night with seven points, followed by Loegan Harshman with five and Analise Salazar and Kassidy Kuykendall with four each. Jones nabbed nine rebounds while Kuykendall, Paige Wood and Salazar made four each.

The Lady Cards played a quick-paced, home court game against Walla Walla Valley Academy on Dec. 18. The Cards were and neck-andneck with the Knights most of the game with the match tied 36-36 with five minutes remaining in the final quarter. The Knights rallied in the final minutes, defeating the Cards 52-39. Lexi Brannock led the Cardinals with eight points, followed by Wood and Salazar with six each. Wood grabbed seven rebounds while Brannock, Jones and Kuykendall gave up 2 assists each.

"The Game against WWVA is probably the best I have ever seen the girls play in a game. We just had one bad quarter and that cost us the game. The girls played as a team and never stopped working for the win. If we could just get that aggressive with everyone that we played then our game would all be a lot closer, "said Elsey.

The Cards hosted Weston-McEwen in a non-conference game on Dec. 19, falling 17- 50 to the Tiger-Scots. Weston-McEwen started off hot, grabbing 32 points in the first quarter, to WP's single bucket. Neither team scored in the second quarter and the remainder of the game remained tight. The Tiger-Scots made 8 points in quarter three and 10 in quarter file, while WP scored six and nine. Kuykyendall and Caitlyn Mohney led the lady Cards with seven points each. Mohney made two treys and Kuykendall and Harshman each made one. Salazar was top rebounder with five.

In the final game before winter break, the lady Cards fell to the Asotin Panthers18 70, Mohney led the game with five points followed by Salazar with four. Jones and Mohney both scored three-pointers and Salazar led with five rebounds for the night.

"Our biggest weakness right now is turnovers. We are averaging right at 30 turnovers a game. If we could figure out how to take better care of the ball, make some shots and come together as a team we would be competitive in almost every game," said Elsey.
