Pre-Christmas storm brings lots of snow, successful post-Christmas opening
DAYTON – Patience paid off for local skiers, who enjoyed an awesome opening day at Ski Bluewood on December 26. A pre-Christmas storm dumped nearly two feet of snow at the ski area 20 miles south of here, with more falling as The Times went to press Monday.
At 5 a.m. Monday, Bluewood was reporting light powder, with 29 inches of snow at the base and 40 inches at the summit. Temperatures have been in the low 20s, and are expected to fall this week.
Bluewood will be open daily through January 4. The ski area's regular hours will commence, starting next week: Thursdays through Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Bluewood features 24 runs, with a total vertical rise of 1,125 feet. Skiers have the option of two triple chair lifts and a platter pull. The ski area also features three terrain parks.
