Waitsburg School Board Minutes

February 11, 2015

Board members present: Ross Hamann, Christy House, Marilyn Johnson, Randy Pearson, Greg Zuger.

Public Comment:

-Representatives of the wrestling program expressed desire to see it continue through Waitsburg-Prescott Combine dissolution.

-Charlie Barron of Walla Walla Electric requested his company have an equal opportunity to bid on small jobs for the district.

Old Business:

-Approved Policy 2107: Reading and Early Literacy Program

New Business:

-Dr. Clarke gave information on a recent board retreat that covered the Compression Planning process, an effective means of identifying priorities and direction for the district. The board asked to learn more about the cost and timeline of going through the process in Waitsburg.

-Dr. Clarke and Secondary Principal Wooderchak gave student achievement updates, per the prior request of a board member.

-Discussed the dissolution of WP Sports Combine and decided to retain status as a 2B (rather than 1B) school for the remainder of the WIAA classification period which runs through next school year. The board will reconsider classification prior to the 2016-17 school year.

- Approved resignation of fourth grade teacher, Margie Douglas who, after 42 years in the same district, has tendered her resignation and plans to retire June 10.

- Accepted resignation of Linnsey Bailey and Susan Wildey as coaches for girl’s middle school softball.

-The fourth grade teaching position will be advertised within the district.

-Approved hire of Jeff Foertsch as middle school baseball assistant coach.
