Lady Bulldogs Split with Colton

Big comeback in first game leads to walk-off win, 12-11; Dayton falls 15-10 in second game

DAYTON – The Dayton softball team scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh and final inning to cap a big comeback and beat Colton in the first game of a Saturday double-header, 12-11.

After giving up nine runs in the first two innings, the Dayton girls chipped away at the Colton lead, scoring two runs in each of the first three innings and one run each in the fourth and sixth. Trailing 11-8 going into the bottom of the seventh, Dayton got the runs they needed.

Taylor Frame hit a two-run single to tie the game. Then, Madison Mings singled and Hanna Becker was hit by a pitch, to load the bases. A hard grounder to short by Savannah McFarland was mishandled, and Frame scored the winning run.

"We had some jitters going into Saturday's games, committing seven errors in the first two innings," said Dayton assistant coach Desirae Jones. "Colton jumped out to a five-run lead in the first inning and we had to play catch-up for the rest of the game."

In the second game, Colton again took an early lead, and again the Lady Bulldogs came back to regain the lead. But this time they couldn't hold it. Six big Colton runs in the top of the sixth erased a 9-7 Dayton lead, and Colton hang on to win, 15-10.

The Lady Bulldogs will host River View on Friday.
