Lady Cards can’t recover from early deficit in 6-4 loss
MILTON-FREEWATER – The WP girls’ softball team hit the road Friday for their first game, and fell to a strong Mac-Hi JV team, 6-4.
The Lady Cards fell behind early, giving up two runs each in the first and third innings. They responded with four runs of their own in the next three frames, but it wasn’t enough.
“For our first full game out I’m pretty pleased with how we did,” said WP Coach Angie Potts. “Since we have some players missing, we started some younger girls and after the first couple of innings they responded really well to different situations on defense and started covering where they needed to be.”
Paige Wood pitched the first six innings for WP. “Paige hasn’t pitched that many innings in over two years and did an outstanding job by only walking 3 batters,” said Potts. “She got some good support from her defense. “
The WP girls will host the same Mac-Hi JV team Thursday, and then will start league play next week.
