WP falls to tcp in extra innings In game 1 after 4-run rally to tie in 7th
PRESCOTT – The Waitsburg-Prescott baseball team dropped two games at home on Thursday to Tri-Cities Prep, 7-6 and 3-1. They followed a win against Riverside on April 28, 16-1.
In game one Thursday, the cardinals were trailing 6-2 going into the seventh and final regulation inning. A four-run rally tied the score and sent the game into extra innings. TCP scored a lone run in eighth, and took the victory, 7-6.
The bottom of the 7th was highlighted with a double by Devin Acevedo, a 2 RBI single by Kyle Gradwohl and Trey Potts' single, which scored Gradwohl to tie it up.
TCP had 15 hits off pitchers Talen Larsen, Gradwohl and Chance Leroue. Leroue had three hits for the Cardinals, including a home run, and Acevedo and Gradwohl had two hits each.
"I was pleased with the way we battled back in game one after being down four runs heading into the bottom of the seventh," said WP Coach Dustin Snedigar. "We could had folded, but the kids fought back."
Game 2 turned into a pitching battle, as Jacob Dunn held the Jaguars scoreless until the seventh inning, giving up only two hits. But Gradwohl's home run in the bottom of the first was to be the Tigers' only score of the game. TCP tied the game in the top of the seventh, and a two-out two-run single in the top of the ninth, proved the game-winner.
Gradwohl had three of the Tigers' six hits in the game. Dunn and reliever Chance Leroue gave up a total of five TCP hits.
We couldn't generate any offense to help Jacob Dunn in game two," Snedigar said. "He threw as well as he could, and had great command of his pitches."
