Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
LEWISTON – The Waitsburg-Prescott track and field team sent ten athletes to the Meet of Champions here on April 30. The meet was an invitational, based on athletes' performances in earlier meets this season.
WP sophomore Landon Callas significantly reduced his personal record times in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdle events. He was 8th in the 300 and 11th in the 110. Senior Owen Lanning was 5th in the 110 and 6th in the 300.
"Landon Callas had a great day and is improving each week in the hurdles," said WP Coach Jeff Bartlow. "He has a very good shot at State with these times."
Lanning also placed 3rd in the triple jump, but scratched out of the long jump.
Callas was also part of two WP relay teams. In the 4x100, WP placed 5th. The Cardinal 4x400 team placed 4th.
"The 4x100 team (Joe Leamy, Travis Crocket, Resean Crocket & Landon Callas) has a shot at state," Bartlow said.
Other strong performances on the boys' side were Tewedros McDowell's 12th place in the 1600 meters, with a new PR by 12 seconds, and Brandon Penner's personal record in the Discus, in which he placed 5th.
For WP's girls, Emily Adams got the win of the meet for the Cardinals, in the 3200 meter run. She was 6th in the 1600 meters and the long jump, and 7th in the triple jump. Her 1600 and triple jump performances were both personal bests.
