WP Boys Win Final District Meet

WALLA WALLA – The Waitsburg-Prescott boys' track team took a convincing win in the regular season's final meet at Martin Field in Walla Walla on May 6. The Cardinals easily out-pointed perennial favorite Asotin, 199-136. But Asotin didn't bring their full team to the meet, according to WP track coach Jeff Bartlow.

"This week it will be much different as we will be competing in District [District 9 Finals meet on Wednesday] and the entire Asotin team will be there," Bartlow said. He said that, since his team doesn't compete in the Pole Vault, due to a lack of facilities, Asotin will be difficult to beat at districts, since they will likely collect 24 points in that event.

Last week, the Cardinals had a big day in the hurdles events, with Kobie Brown, Owen Lanning and Landon Callas taking the top three spots in both the 110 and 300 meters. Brown's also won the high jump and was second in the long jump. Lanning won the triple jump and was third in the long jump.

Two WP 4x100 teams took the top two spots, with the team of Resean Crockett, Callas, Joe Leamy and Travis Crockett getting the win.

"That team is on the brink of success," Bartlow said. "Just a few handoff issues and if we can improve [the] start, it will help."

Travis Crockett also got a bit win in the 100 meters and was second in the 200.

Dylan Knowles had a great day for WP in the shot put and discus, with PRs in both.

On the girls' side, Emily Adams also had a big day, getting wins in the 800 meters, long jump and triple jump. She was second in the 3200 meters.

"[Adams]  PR'ed in all four of her events and broke a school record in the long jump (16'9") beating a mark that is pretty old (Kelly McCaw's 16'3" mark in 1998)," Bartlow said. "She was excited about that."
