Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WAITSBURG – It's the time of year for "spring cleaning," and some major to-do's on the wish list of the Waitsburg Ambulance Service (WAS) Board have been crossed off, thanks to donations of time, materials and equipment from local business owners who worked together to clean up the lot surrounding the building.
WAS board member Nancy Otterson said she had been wishing for new gravel in the parking area for "a very long time." According to EMT Cimarron Perkins, the rock in the lot was too big for car tires, the lot was filled with potholes and just deteriorating in general.
Tom Konen of Konen Rock Crushing in Dayton, donated gravel and equipment to recover the lot, while Dave Konen of Concrete Industries delivered the gravel and had it spread. It was all done at no charge to the ambulance service.
"This is something the WAS has wanted done for a long time, but just didn't have the funds to make it happen," said Perkins. "The Konen's are always ready to help the public."
Alpine Industries owner Clyde Burdine, of Waitsburg, donated the time and equipment necessary to relocate the flagpole further from the building.
"The old pole was so close that the flags were hitting the building and getting destroyed," Perkins said. "Now we will hang both the American Flag and the Star of Life EMS flag."
The WAS is always in need of local volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering should call the WAS office at (509) 337-6149.
