Waitsburg plans first-ever National Night Out event
WAITSBURG – Waitsburg residents will want to mark their calendars now for the evening of Tuesday, August 4. Each year, on the first Tuesday in August, over 37 million people, across the nation, participate in National Night Out, an anti-crime and anti-drug event. And this year, for the first time, Waitsburg will be joining in the fun.
Waitsburg city councilmember Deb Callahan and Fire District No. 2 Fire Commissioner Deb Fortner are organizing the event which will take place at Preston Park on the evening of August 4. The event will feature a variety of attractions as well as free hotdogs and drinks, sponsored by the Waitsburg Firemen’s Association.
The Waitsburg Clinic staff will perform blood pressure checks and the Waitsburg fire department will be on site with a fire truck, teaching fire safety. The Walla Walla County Sheriff’s office will have a booth and may bring their patrol boat and teach boat safety.
Callahan said they are working on getting commitments for more booths such as one for bicycle safety and helmet checks and a voter’s registration booth. They also plan to have a free swim night at the city pool.
Callahan said all volunteers are welcome, especially individuals or groups that would like to do balloon animals, face painting, children’s games or the like. Volunteers should call Deb Callahan at 520-0607.
