WAITSBURG – At their July 27 meeting, Walla Walla County Commisisoners agreed to let voters decide whether or not the City of Waitsburg Fire Department will be annexed into Walla Walla County Fire Protection District No. 2 (WW Fire 2). Commissioners Jim Duncan, Jim Johnson and Perry Dozier voted unanimously to pass a resolution calling for the special election proposal that will go before voters in November.
Both the City of Waitsburg and WW Fire 2 are in agreement that the annexation, as well as the annexation of the Waitsburg Ambulance Service into WW Fire 2, is in the best interest of all parties involved. A pre-annexation agreement between the city and WW Fire 2 is in the final stages of completion.
According to the Walla Walla county Auditor’s office, voters in both the City of Waitsburg and voters in the Walla Walla County portion of Fire District 2 will vote on the annexation. In order to pass, the proposal must receive a majority vote from both voters in the city and those in the district.
