WAITSBURG – Nine-year-old Makenna Barron sang “The Star Spangled Banner” at all Big 4 Rodeos this year and is now among the top ten contenders to sing the national anthem at the Wrangler NFR Las Vegas rodeo.
Barron, who submitted a video audition to the NFR Las Vegas rodeo, was in competition with 21 other youth competitors. The competitors, whose auditions can be heard at the WNFR website, were narrowed down by popular vote, with Barron making the top ten.
The first round winners were announced on the Official NFR Experience Facebook page on Sept. 15. A selection committee will now determine the top three competitors and public voting will start back up on Sept. 24 at http://www.nfrsocialarena.com/national_anthem_vote_youth.
