Four Dayton running backs cross goal line in second half, as Bulldogs lose, 72-40
DAYTON – For yet another game, the Dayton Bulldogs defense struggled to contain an opponent early on Friday night, as Colton racked up 36 unanswered first-quarter points. However the Bulldogs offense came to life in the second half, as Dayton fell, 72-40 in their homecoming game.
The Bulldogs were led by freshman running back Eli Williams, who scored three touchdowns. Three other backs, Tristen Willis, Jeffery Tate and Tanner Bren, also reached the end zone.
Quarterback Bren also started off a double pass play for a touchedown. After Kobie Sunderlin-Herrin took an overhead lateral from Bren, he found Tate downfield, who scored on the play.
Except for Bren's quarterback scramble for a score in the second quarter, all of Dayton's touchdowns came in the second half.
Dayton travels to St. Johns Friday night to take on St. John-Endicott in a battle of winless teams.
