Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

Tricho Cuts is Back in Town

Former salon owner Teresa Hinchliffe reopens shop in Waitsburg

WAITSBURG - They say the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, and Waitsburg hair salon owner Teresa Hinchliffe will soon discover if that holds true for the other side of the street as well.

Last week, Hinchliffe opened her hair salon, Tricho Cuts, in the building next to The Times on Waitsburg's Main Street. She had previously operated a salon by the same name, for many years, on the west side of Main next to the former Farmer's Café (Ginny's Grill, before that).

Hinchliffe, the daughter of Wayne Hinchliffe and Joan (Burres) Hinchliffe, grew up in Dayton, and raised her daughter, Shannon (Branson) Wertz, in Waitsburg. She owned and operated Tricho Cuts for many years. After Shannon graduated in 2002, Hinchliffe moved to the Tacoma area where her boyfriend, Keith Kammenzind, worked as an electrician and project manager.

Hinchliffe continued in the salon industry while in the Tacoma area and especially enjoyed working in the barber shop at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. "That was a lot of fun. I got to see places most people never get to go," she said.

Hinchliffe retained her home in Waitsburg as a place to stay when she visited her parents, who currently share an apartment at Booker Rest Home in Dayton, and her daughter and three grandchildren who live in the Tri-Cities. The couple moved back to Waitsburg in June, following Kammenzind's retirement.

Hinchliffe then rented a salon chair at Wheatland Village in Walla Walla, which she loved. "I got to see a lot of local people there and the retirees there are very busy – always on the go," she said.

When she learned that the space at 141 Main Street, formerly occupied by Treasure Artist Cooperative, was available for rent, she decided to bring Tricho Cuts back to Waitsburg. She says she is excited to be able to reconnect with her former clients from Waitsburg, Prescott, and Dayton.

Hinchliffe says she offers the standard services: curl, color, set, blow dry and lip waxing; but she is also open to new ideas. She is considering hiring someone to come in on a monthly basis to perform non-acrylic manicures and pedicures.

"I may add new services, depending on what people want," she said.

Tricho Cuts is currently open Tues. – Fri. from 9 a.m. until "3-ish," depending on business. Walk-ins are always welcome and appointments can be made by calling Teresa at (509) 240-6034.
