Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
WAITSBURG – The Waitsburg Cardinals had a tough match against Walla Walla Valley Academy in an away match on Tues., Oct. 13, but made up for it by taking a win against Asotin on the Cardinal court on Thurs., Oct. 15.
The Cardinals fell to the Knights 14-25, 9-25, 9-25. Stat leaders were Devon Harshman with four kills and two blocks, Caitlyn Jones with eight digs and five aces, and Bailey Adams with five digs.
"We were outmatched against WWVA but the girls played will, overall. They like competing against a good team like that because they feel a sense of accomplishment when they're able to make great plays," said Cardinal Coach Angie Potts.
In the home play against Asotin, the Cardinals brought home the win in four sets: 26-24, 25-16, 12-25, 25-20. Ariel Sandau was stat leader with 18 assists and four kills. Bailey Adams made eight kills, eight digs, and three aces. Caitlyn Mohney dished out six kills and Caitlyn Jones made 10 digs and three aces. Devon Harshman had 12 kills and three blocks while Tayler Jones made four kills and three blocks.
"We started out a little too overconfident going into the match with Asotin but we were able to get the win. We've been working on not becoming panicked if we're behind of playing in a close set so this match was a good test of that," said Potts.
"The girls remained calm and confident despite playing a little flat in the third set. They were also able to work in some quick sets in order to add more options to our offense. Bailey Adams and Taylor Hays did a great job hitting their serving locations as well," Potts added.
