Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley

Aspiring Writers Group

DAYTON/WAITSBURG - Anyone with a love of writing is invited to join in a newly formed writing group for writers of all ages. The group’s next meetings will take place at the Waitsburg Weller Library on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. followed by a meeting at the Dayton Memorial Library on Wed., Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.

Group organizer Ann McCambridge said she formed the group for writers of all ages to teach, encourage and learn from one another. The group is for anyone who shares an interest in writing, whether it they write memoirs, fiction, poetry, songs or non-fiction. The group is informal and all are welcome.

McCambridge was both pleased and surprised to have local students participating in the group. “Mixing ages and genders gives the group more depth, flavor and diversity, so to speak. We can learn so much from others, and who doesn’t have a story to tell?” McCambridge said.

The group is currently participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), which began Nov. 1. The challenge is to write 50,000 words in 30 days but McCambridge said there is no pressure to meet that goal, just to participate.

Local author Dani Harper will be on hand at the Waitsburg meeting to discuss the NaNoWriMo challenge and to answer questions that participants may have. At the Nov. 11 meeting in Dayton, the group will discuss future topics to explore.

There is no charge to participate and McCambridge is happy to answer questions at annmccambridge@hotmail.com.
