Dayton and Waitsburg students will compete in gingerbread house-building contest
DAYTON – The Dayton Chamber of Commerce is adding a new dessert course to its Christmas Kickoff Celebration this year: gingerbread.
Kids in the Dayton and Waitsburg schools will compete this month in a gingerbread house-building contest to be sponsored by the Chamber. Each class, from preschool to high school is invited to enter a gingerbread house that the students will create together.
Gingerbread house entries must be at least partially edible, but can be made out of just about anything. The only other restriction will be that they must fit on a two foot by two foot base. They must be delivered to the Chamber by November 23.
The finished gingerbread houses will be on display in one of the downtown buildings during Dayton's Christmas Kickoff celebration, Nov. 27 and 28. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite entry.
The winning classes from each school will be honored with an ice cream float party in December, put on by the Chamber and by event sponsor Snapdragon Floral and Gifts (formerly Croft's).
