Ross Hamann, chairman of the Waitsburg Community Revitalization Committee, was honored by the Waitsburg City Council and Mayor Martin Dunn for his work that resulted in the Downtown Streetscape Project progressing smoothly from conception to its current status of receiving funding, the latest a $193,000 grant from the Regional Transportation Planning Organization.
The Waitsburg Cardinals landed two All Conference selections for the Southeast B-11 All-League football team. Senior John Raver was selected as a linebacker and junior Jeremy Nichols was selected as a defensive back, Coach Jeff Bartlow said Tuesday.
The stage of Dayton’s Liberty Theater will be transformed to Salzburg, Austria and the Bavarian Alps as the Touchet Valley Arts Council presents its fifth fall musical production, “The Sound of Music.” Headlining the performances, which begin Sunday, November 13 with a 3 p.m. matinee, are Shelly Franklin as Maria and Mike Ferrians as Capt. Von Trapp.

J.W. “Buffalo Bill” Thompson announced to Commercial Club members that Tuesday, November 20, will be the annual Thanksgiving dinner, and a chance for the community to wish Tiny and Irene Jorgensen well on their retirement coming up in December.
There was joy at the District Tournament as the Cardinals came back to win over Tekoa-Oakesdale in the first match Monday. And there were a few tears when the 1990 season was over after a tough loss to the Lacrosse/Washtucna Tigercats in a three-game match on Monday evening. Coach Dinah Lindsey said the Cardinals played their best volleyball of the season at the Tournament, and she was very proud.
The first meeting of the planning committee for the 1990 Hometown Christmas Celebration met last week to begin preparation for a better than ever event. Rose Engelbrite is general Chairperson for the committee, with several folks in town to take part in planning and execution.

November 11, 1965
Pete Huwe and Bill Thompson, local businessmen, recently signed a lease for the Atkinson Feed Store building and have announced plans to open a laundramat at that location in the near future. Pete, owner and manager of the Palm Club, was raised in this area and lives with his family at Dayton. Bill moved his family here from Pullman, after purchasing the Waitsburg T.V. Cable system last year.
Ed Huffman of Huntsville has a set of 4 ponies that don’t often have a chance to work together. A week ago, Ed was helping Edwina Painter of Waitsburg by disking the field just west of her house. He decided to use his ponies to pull his rig. Ed said that he usually does this type of work with a small tractor, but thought that this would give his ponies a chance to get in shape – they were a little bit soft, he admitted.

Virginia Rinehart is a member of the Washington State College String Orchestra. Miss Rinehart, a freshman enrolled in secretarial science, plays a second violin.
Lloyd Harkins, 22 years old, was very seriously injured Sunday afternoon when a shotgun his wife was unloading, was accidentally discharged. The discharge penetrated the back of Harkin’s left hip. He was given a blood transfusion late Sunday and his physician expressed the belief that he could recover unless complications develop.
Robert Hastings, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. O. Hastings has been tapped by Intercollegiate Knights at EWCE at convocation last week.

Nov. 19. 1915
Jess B Duncan of Peshastin, Wash. sent down a roast of venison to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Duncan a few days ago. J. B. shot the deer within a few miles of Peshastin. It was a big buck with seven point antlers and weighed 350 pounds. He says the he and the men who accompanied him had some real tussle dragging the buck into camp.
Some of the farmers are hauling hogs to town, among them being Groom Bickelhaupt.
Mrs. Lert Buroker marketed some geese in Walla Walla Tuesday.

At the school election in this city last Saturday, David Roberts was elected director and H. W. Morgan was re-elected clerk. H. S. Shuham is the outgoing member of the board.
In going home from election last Tuesday night, owing to the blackness of the darkness, Lewis Cox stepped off the approach to the Coppei bridge and barely escaped serious injury.
At the “Hard Times” party last Monday evening the prize offered to the most shabbily dressed person, was awarded to the Phat man, notwithstanding he at that time was “dressed in his best suit of clothes.”
The Y.P.C.E.S. of Christian Church gave a basket lunch social in Armory Hall on Thursday evening. The attendance was not very good owing to the fact that but few knew anything about it.
