Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
Adams and Callas will compete in Pasco on Saturday
CHENEY - Neither wind nor rain (nor goblins and ghouls) could prevent Waitsburg Cardinals Emily Adams and Landon Callas from earning spots at this week’s upcoming State Cross-Country meet in Pasco. Adams placed fourth and Callas placed 13th at the District 7/9 Regional Championship Meet at the Fairways Golf Course in Cheney, Wash. on Oct. 31.
“The weather made for a tough run and not many PRs but Waitsburg ran well in spite of the wind, rain, and super soggy terrain,” said Cardinal Coach Ann Adams.
Emily Adams, a junior, moved to the front of the pack early on and remained there to claim her fourth place position, out of 58 runners, with a time of 20:18.36. This will be Adams’ third trip to state competition, where she placed 18th last year.
Callas finished 18th among 95 competitors with a time of 17:47.56 and a ticket to the state meet. Callas, a junior, ran cross-country for the first time last year, and will be making his second trip to state.
Junior Skylar Wood placed 59th with a time of 20:06.2, junior Joe Leamy finished 80th at 22:28.4, and sophomore Tom House came in 83rd with a time of 22:28.4.
The 1B/2B Sate X-C Meet will take place Sat. at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco on Sat., Nov. 7. The girls run at 10 a.m. and the boys’ race at 11:30 a.m.
“Come support them as they represent Waitsburg in this great race,” Coach Adams said.
