WHS Boys Win Mac-Hi Tourney

Jacob Dunn scores 22 and pulls down 26 rebounds over 2 games

MILTON-FREEWATER – The Waitsburg Cardinals won consecutive games against Riverside and Mac-Hi over the weekend to win the Mac-Hi Tournament here Saturday night.

On Friday night, the Cardinal boys cruised to a 40-21 victory over Riverside. Kyle Gradwohl scored 19 points, while Jacob Dunn had eight. Dunn also pulled down 13 rebounds.

In a cold-shooting first half, the Cardinals built a 10-5 lead at halftime.

On Saturday night, the Cardinals dominated the Pioneers, winning 53-24 to capture the tournament.

Dunn led the scoring with 14 points, and again had 13 rebounds. Gradwohl and Landon Callas each scored 13.

The Cardinals' defense stifled Mac-Hi in the first half, holding them to four points in the first quarter and scoreless in the second and taking a 23-4 lead into halftime.

"We played our best defense so far this year," said Waitsburg coach Tavis Crittenden. "Our size was a big advantage in both games."
