Waitsburg High senior Stuart Walsh will take oath in January
WAITSBURG – Come January, there will be a new face at the Waitsburg City Council table. New student liaison Stuart Walsh will be sworn in at the Jan. 20 city council meeting.
The Waitsburg High School senior, and son of Jim and Anne Walsh, is currently president of both the associated student body and the National Honor Society. He is also Knowledge Bowl captain.
Walsh was recently featured in a television spot as O'Brien Chevrolet's Student of the Month for October. Last year he served as National Honor Society treasurer and he held the office of class president as a freshman.
Walsh has played sports off and on, but also works part-time. He recently left his job at Subway in Dayton and will work this ski season at Ski Bluewood.
Walsh attended Evergreen Boys' State last summer where he held the office of state treasurer. He said his experience at Boy's State played a role in his decision to apply as city council student liaison.
"I realized that I enjoyed doing that type of thing and I like to help make decisions. I hope to be able to speak for the younger crowd in Waitsburg and provide insight and good ideas, "he said.
Walsh replaces former student liaison Emma Philbrook. Past representatives include Meara Baker (2013), Logan Dozier (2012), and Fletcher Baker (2011.)
Walsh says he is okay with waiting until January to be sworn in because his family is taking their "first real vacation" to Cancun Mexico during Christmas break.
"I'm super excited about that!" he said.
