Turnovers hurt in otherwise strong showing by Waitsburg girls at home
WAITSBURG – The Waitsburg girls' basketball team put up a tough fight against Pomeroy at home Saturday night, but came up short, losing 55-47. It was a much- improved showing for the Lady Cardinals, who were routed by the Pirates in Pomeroy in December, 46-19.
After falling behind in the first quarter, 10-4, the Cardinals put up 18 points in the second, and trailed 26-22 at the half.
Waitsburg was led by Devon Harshman's 13 points. She also pulled down 14 rebounds. Annie Araya had 11 points, and Tayler Jones had nine. The Lady Cards outrebounded the Pirates 26 to 16. But Waitsburg also committed 29 turnovers Pomeroy's 16.
Waitsburg was to host Colton on Tuesday and then will play at home against Tri-Cities Prep Friday. On Saturday the team travels to Asotin.
