Vote yes on Dayton School Levies

Dear Editor,

As a graduate of Dayton High School and newly appointed school board member, I would like to encourage our community to vote “yes” for both the renewal of the Replacement Maintenance and Operation Levy and the Capital Levy for Technology, Safety, Security and Efficiency Improvements. I don’t know of a school district in the State of Washington that can operate without the community approval of levies. Like all other public schools in the State of Washington, Dayton relies on a levy to make up for at least 25% of the budget shortfall. Do I think that our schools can and should continue to improve the delivery of instruction to students? Yes! Without our continued support of levies, we cannot get the improvements needed to meet the demanding needs for 21st century citizens, our students. When Dayton is compared to our neighboring schools, we are the lowest in terms of tax rates. I believe the Dayton School District is placing fiscally responsible measures on the ballot. Pease vote yes on the levies. Keep our schools moving forward. If you have questions on the proposed levies, please go to http://daytoncitizensforeducation.com or call me at (509) 290-3881.
