Cardinal Girls Fall to Mac-Hi and Asotin, Win Against Prescott

Devon Harshman scores 22 in win against Tigers

WAITSBURG – The Lady Cards basketball team followed losses to Dayton, Mac-Hi, and Asotin with a win against the Prescott Tigers on Saturday.

Waitsburg vs. Asotin

The Cardinals traveled to Asotin on Jan. 9 where they put up a good fight against the Panthers but ultimately fell 34-49. Asotin took an early lead of 20-9 in the first quarter and maintained it for the win.

Catilin Mohney was high scorer with three, three-point buckets for a total of nine points and made three steals. Analisea Araya added eight points and made three rebounds. Devon Harshman scored six points, and pulled down nine rebounds. Tayler Jones added five points, with one three-point goal, and caught four rebounds.

Waitsburg vs. Mac-Hi

The Cards fell to Mac-Hi 44-28 in an away match on Jan. 12. The Cardinals ended the first quarter at 5-8, thanks to a 3-point bucket at the buzzer by Taylor Hays. The Pioneers scored 15 points in the second quarter, to Waitsburg’s two points, ending the third quarter with a lead of 27-7. Waitsburg kicked into gear, scoring 14 points in the final quarter but it was too little, too late to save the Cardinals.

Devon Harshman scored an impressive 18 points, 12 rebounds, and four steals for the Cardinals. Analisea Araya made four points, with three rebounds and four steals. Taylor Hays made the only 3-point goal and had two rebounds and three steals.

Waitsburg vs. Prescott

The Cardinals brought home a 57-31 win against the Prescott Tigers in a home court match on Sat. Jan. 16. Waitsburg took a 14-3 lead in the first quarter and scored 22 points in the second quarter. Prescott outscored Waitsburg 22-14 in quarter three but Waitsburg regained control and made 10 points to Prescott’s five in the final round.

Freshman Devon Harshman scored 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Cards and Tayler Jones added eight points with six steals. Lexi Brannock made six points and grabbed five rebounds.

Briseida Ayala was top scorer for the Tigers with 15 points, followed by Nayeli Flores with five.
