Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
SPOKANE – One pin by David Just and three wins by forfeit were the only high points at the Dream Duals Tournament at the Spokane Convention Center on Sat. Jan. 23.
Waitsburg faced off against Warden in round one, but walked away empty-handed.
"I'm not really sure what happened. It seems like most of the team did not have their head in the game. We missed some moves and made some fatal mistakes," said Coach Lanny Adams after the round.
Waitsburg wrestled Tonasket in round two with the only win being a win by forfeit to former state title contender Tristan Newman (285). The meet was Newman's first time on the mat this season. He fell to Mikey Harnandez of Warden by fall in 1:04 in round one.
Both Carlos Norris (113) and Newman won by forfeit in round three against Okanogan. Just (138) made the only skilled win of the meet, pinning Myron Super in 26 seconds.
"I would have liked to see a better showing and performance by the Cardinal wrestlers, but it is what it is. Now they just need to refocus and start preparing for our last few matches we have and then get ready for post-season action," Adams said.
The Cardinals' next league meet is in Pomeroy on Sat. Jan. 30 at 10 a.m.
