Waitsburg Girls Fall to WWVA, DeSales

COLLEGE PLACE – The Waitsburg Girls’ basketball team went on the road Saturday and struggled against a strong Walla Walla Valley Academy team, losing 66-42.

The teams played even in the first half, with the Lady Cardinals down 27-23 at the intermission. However, WWVA pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring Waitsburg, 25-5.

For the game, Caitlin Mohney led the cardinals with nine points, and Tayler Jones added eight. Devon Harshman had big night on the boards, pulling down 15 rebounds.

WALLA WALLA – The Waitsburg girls fell behind early against DeSales and couldn’t recover, as the Irish beat the Lady Cardinals, 60-31, on Jan. 19

DeSales jumped out to a 17-4 lead after one quarter, and led 30-13 at the half. Waitsburg struggled with cold shooting throughout, going 13 for 71 from the floor.

Tayler Jones had 11 points for the Lady Cardinals, including the team’s only three-pointer, despite a combined 19 attempts by the team from outside the arc. Devon Harshman added eight points. She also pulled down 17 rebounds.
