Serving Waitsburg, Dayton and the Touchet Valley
April 14, 1950 - January 23, 2016
Jock Nysoe, 65, passed away January 23, 2016, at Providence St. Mary’s Medical Center in Walla Walla.
Jock was born April 14, 1950 in Dayton to Glen and Janis (Donohue) Nysoe, and was the third of four children. Jock grew up in Dayton; attend Dayton Elementary School and graduated from Dayton High School in 1968. He then attended Western Washington University, and in 1971, attended The Evergreen State College in Olympia, before returning to Dayton to help out with the family’s farming operations, which at the time included wheat, peas, an apple orchard on the Tucannon, and a small cattle operation.
Jock did extensive foreign traveling with his brother Greg, which included visits to India, Nepal, Singapore, the Philippine Islands and Mexico. He also traveled extensively throughout the United States with family, friends and relatives.
A sense of humor, dry wit, and the open and friendly manner in which he dealt with people throughout the community, was typical of Jock’s personality. He was a member of the Columbia County Grain Growers, served on the planning commission for the City of Dayton and ran an unsuccessful campaign for County Commissioner as a Democrat, which is probably the reason he lost the race in his very conservative county. Jock was always willing to help others, no matter what the need and never asked for anything in return. He lived life the way he wanted.
Jock was preceded in death by his father, Glen; mother Janis; and his brother Greg. Jock is survived by his Aunt, Dwyla Donohue of Seattle, brothers Dain (Claudia) Nysoe both of Dayton, and Jason Nysoe of Spokane, and numerous cousins here in Dayton as well as across the state.
He filled his need for family by enjoying his nieces; Hanna Nysoe and Haley McSpadden (Travis) of Spokane; and his nephews Brent Nysoe (Tara) of Seattle and Tyler Nysoe (Laura) of Maple Valley plus his great nieces and nephews Julian, Anna, Dane, Isabelle, Emma, Oliver and Jack. Jock played Santa last Christmas for the Nysoe grandchildren and Cousin Ryan (Cindy) Donohue’s grandchildren.
Memorial service will be Friday, February 5, 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, 410 S. Third St. Dayton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Glen Nysoe Cancer Fund through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, or by mail to 216 S. First Street, Dayton, WA 99328.
